Something we hear often is that many people would love to have their products finished but either don't have the time or skills, are not sure what products to use or intend to finish their products but are so excited when they arrive that they assemble them and then never get around to it.
We offer a range of finishes for our products including raw wood, beeswax and varnish finish.
Raw Wood Finish
A raw wood finish is the wood sanded to a fine grit and is lighter in colour compared to a beeswax or varnish finish.
A beeswax finish is the wood sanded to a fine grit then a wax blend is applied by hand and buffed to satin finish. Our beeswax blend is both child and food safe and unlike most other beeswax type polishes it will not attract dust or fingerprints. Other benefits of a beeswax finish is that it offers protection against dirty hands and grubby feet marks as well as food stains and adds grip to the surface.
A varnish finish is the wood sanded to a fine grit then a clear, water-based polyurethene sealer is applied by hand. Two coats are applied with light sanding in between. A varnish finish is the most durable finish for our products and will provide a clear, scrubbable surface that can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Surface scratches can be repaired by sanding back and re-coating. The varnish we use is 100% free of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), meaning it is safe for the chemically sensitive, asthma sufferers, pregnant women, children and pets.
No finish is a permanent finish and will need to be re-applied over time. If stored as per Modplay recommendations (always placed on clean, dry surfaces and stored undercover, preferably inside) your beeswax/varnish finish should last years.
